Now, this becomes relevant when one of the weapons for the Hybrids in the Genestealer expansion was a rapid-firing autocannon which is a slightly scaled-down version of what light tanks use to engage armour and the hybrid had to remain stationary to fire it. Genestealer then added in Hybrids (which were unfortunately left out of future releases of the boardgame) to give the Genestealer player access to a few weaker units with ranged weapons and both players got access to psychic powers via Hybrids & Librarians. The original game is what today's boardgames are based on (Blood Angels Terminators vs Purestrain Genestealers) but the original release had two expansions Genestealer & Deathwing.ĭeathwing added in the first company of the Dark Angels chapter (obviously!) back when they were Native American based, but also expaned the Terminator's armoury to beyond just storm bolters, heavy flamers & power fists to include the stuff that you see in the game like assault cannons (could malfunction "catastrophically" and explode), claws, hammers, etc. I think there's a bit of history here: Deathwing is clearly based on the first edition of Space Hulk which came out way back in the early 90s.
